Support and understanding of any sort are priceless and particularly at a time when you are probably feeling low and demotivated. Others have found my ebook "Fantasy Island Finances" helpful in getting control back of their life and empowering their ability to look after their emotional needs.

‘Fantasy Island’ is a very accessible book chronicling how I got into debt, came out of financial denial, survived bankruptcy and finally achieved successful financial management. Drawing on my experience as a debt adviser, there are chapters regarding how to deal with creditors and debt agencies and still remain empowered.

My ebook covers practical tips and emotional support. It is written by someone who has been through what you are now going through.

Fantasy Island Finances Ebook

The Introduction
I lay out my philosophy regarding debt and my sincere wish that no-one be tempted to take their own life because of having made a mistake with money. I share how being in debt probably cost me my health and my hope that no one should lose theirs over the stress of living with unmanageable debt.

Chapter One - My Story
I share with you reader how I got into debt and the triggers (including those from childhood) that led to my eventual bankruptcy. My story may be different from yours, but I have no doubt that the emotions and feelings that I want through will resonate with you. I know what you are going through.

Chapter Two - Coming out of Financial Denial: No Need For Suicide
How to take your power back around debt. The financial fog is beginning to lift. Whilst this period can be incredibly uncomfortable, it is the start of new beginnings with financial management. Packed with vital tips this chapter describes how to look after yourself throughout this period without resorting to drastic ideas about avoidance or escape.

Chapter Three - Shame and Forgiveness
Now is the time to let go, forgive ourselves and move on. If ever you needed to know that debt is not a life sentence, this is the time. History is littered with famous characters who went through bankruptcy and more and not only did they survive but they thrived.

Chapter Four - Emotional Empowerment: Creditor Letters and Telephone calls
The first step is to open those letters and deal with them on the phone. This chapter has some useful mantras to use with debt collectors and creditors and shows us how to take responsibility for the debts; not abuse.

"I would rather follow the suggestions of someone who has been through debt and come out the other side. Kate has been there!"
Steven Harold - Therapist, London.

Chapter Five - Emotional Empowerment: Debt Advice Agencies
This details what to do at the various debt advice advice agencies. How to prepare for the meeting and remain empowered throughout the appointment, even though we may be feeling very vulnerable at the amount of debt we have incurred and the chaos of our financial mismanagement.

Chapter Six - Bankruptcy: The Last Resort
Get proper professional advice before taking this option. This chapter explains hat to do at court if bankrupted in England and Wales and how to deal with insolvency officialsm wherever you live in the UK. We need to stay empowered even when feeling at our most vulnerable.

Chapter Seven - The Pain of Financial Exclusion
Despite media hype, insolvency/bankruptcy is not an easy option. It is the start of a period of exclusion from mainstream financial services. This chapter covers the story of my own financial exclusion, how I came through it, and the financial institutions such as Credit Unions that can help with being disenfranchised from mainstream banking.

Chapter Eight - Finding ‘That Light’ and Moving On
There is light at the end of the tunnel. I share how I have moved on from bankruptcy. Although I live on a very limited income due to my illness, I am still able to save 10% of it. I am financially solvent for the first time in my life. There is life after insolvency!

Afterword - Financial Responsibility: Whose Call Is It?
My personal viewpoint on how times have changed with regards to banking procedures. There appears to have been a shift from guiding and advising to selling products. I also comment on the role of financial education and the hope that the consumers and citizens of the future can make active choices and be well-enough informed not to become entangled in the mire of financial denial.

I hope that this book will give you comfort and know that you are not alone in what you are going through.
